High Plains Flooring & Blinds exists because we believe people deserve better when it comes to flooring and window coverings. Better care. Better installation. Better follow-through. Too often, customers are left disappointed by rushed installs or unclear expectations, and skilled installers are treated like an afterthought. We started this company to change that.
For us, this work is about walking alongside customers from the first conversation to the final walkthrough. It’s about respecting the craft of installation and helping turn a house into a space people are proud to come home to. We focus on honest work, real relationships, and results that last — for our customers, our team, and the communities we serve.
From hands-on installer to local flooring store
Our Story
James has been installing floors for more than 30 years, long before High Plains Flooring & Blinds ever had a storefront. After years of working in the industry, he saw the same problems over and over: poor installation, rushed jobs, and customers left dealing with the consequences. About six years ago, High Plains Flooring & Blinds was opened to do things differently — with installation expertise leading the way, not sales pressure.
This is still a family-run business. James and Tina own and operate the company, their daughters manage the showroom, and their son is learning the trade alongside experienced installers. Every decision is made with long-term quality in mind, not shortcuts. We’ve grown by word of mouth, repeat customers, and referrals, and we plan to keep it that way.

James P Salas
Owner
I’m a proud father of my hardworking children – Felicia, Marcus, James A. Salas, and Vanessa Salas – and husband to my wonderful wife, Tina Salas. I started installing flooring in my early 20s, and like many young installers, I experienced the highs and lows of trying to make it in business. One of my biggest goals has always been to open a flooring store and eventually own a building dedicated to selling flooring. Something I always noticed in the industry was a lack of care for the customers, and I wanted to change that. Family and faith are the most important parts of my life, and I enjoy nothing more than spending time with my family, eating together, and traveling. I’ve also been fortunate to take part in several mission trips to Vietnam. My goal is to continue growing this business and building a legacy focused on care and customer service.
Tina Salas
Owner
Hi, I’m Tina Salas, wife of James P. Salas. My family is the center of my world, and I’m grateful for the journey we’ve shared together. My background is in engineering, and after years of working for hospitals as an IT and project manager, my husband, James, decided to open a flooring store in addition to his installation work. That’s when I left my job to help, and now I find joy in connecting with our customers – meeting new people is something I truly love. When time allows, I enjoy gardening and reading to continue expanding my knowledge.

Hey, I’m James A. Salas. I grew up learning flooring installation from my dad, James P. Salas, and it’s been a passion of mine ever since. One of my dreams is to start a podcast focused on the next generation learning the trade of flooring installation. I’m also a proud husband to Joana Salas and father to two amazing kids. Family is a huge part of my life, and I love spending time with them, especially when I’m teaching my son how to shoot – whether it’s guns or the bow. Those are moments I truly cherish.
Vanessa Salas
Accounts Manager and Sales Consultant
I’m a California native who grew up in Pueblo, Colorado, and I’m currently studying accounting in college. Traveling – especially outside the U.S. – is my passion, and I thrive on discovering new cultures. I love rainy days that invite cozy reading sessions and the thrill of learning new skills; right now, I’m diving into Vietnamese! My faith in Jesus Christ is a big part of who I am, guiding my adventures and shaping my journey.

Commercial Project Estimator and Sales Specialist
I’m a wife and a proud pet mom to Zoey, my wild and energetic fur baby, as well as a loving stepmom. Thrifting is my happy place – I’m always on the hunt for a great deal, and it’s truly become a hobby of mine. I also love spending time with my family whenever I can. I enlisted in the Army as a map maker, but after fracturing my back in a fall, my plans changed. Now, I stay busy helping my family with the business. In my free time, I enjoy gardening and expressing my creativity through art.

Hi, I’m Joana Salas, mother of two amazing children and wife to my wonderful husband, James A. Salas. I’m bilingual, with Spanish being my first language, and I love using both languages every day. Family is everything to me, so I try to spend as much time as I can traveling and making memories with them – because life is short! When I get some quiet time, you’ll find me reading or relaxing with some coloring. It’s the little things that bring me joy.
